Mellow Submarine is a Beatles-themed brunch cafe and in-house bakery on the main road in Chalok, run by a couple who have called Koh Tao home for over six years. The cinnamon rolls come out of the oven before 7 am. The sourdough is baked fresh each day. So are the croissants, bagels, focaccia, and brioche buns.
The owner is a photographer who sells postcards and prints of Koh Tao in the cafe, and hosts occasional art workshops. The gallery wall changes. The cat does not. Ringo Starr has been holding down his spot since the beginning.
Everything on the menu is made in house, from the house mango-chili sauce to the homemade ice cream and cheesecake. Beatles music plays throughout the day, and the dish names do the rest: Day Tripper smoothie bowl, Love Me Do, and more. Vegan, vegetarian, and family friendly. Board games available. Free WiFi. Metal straws and free drinking water always.
